In the aftermath of mass violence or high-profile community incidents, public conversations often wrongly link violence with mental illness. During these moments, NAMI State and Affiliate organizations are called to support communities while addressing stigma.
This session brings together NAMI leaders who have navigated these challenges following incidents of violence in their communities. Speakers will share how they scaled programs and helpline services to meet increased demand, engaged with media and policymakers, and worked to ensure policy responses did not harm people with mental health conditions.
Participants will gain practical insights, resources and strategies to help their organizations prepare for and respond to these difficult moments.
