Speaker Bio
Dr. Johnson’s research engages communities to address psychosocial factors influencing the health and well-being of populations living with or at risk of developing chronic illness and/or disability. Her research has been funded by the National Science Foundation (NSF), Rehabilitation Services Administration (RSA), National Institute on Disability, Independent Living and Rehabilitation Research (NIDILRR) Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration (SAMHSA), Department of Education (DOE), National Alliance on Mental Illness (NAMI), and internally via the University of Iowa’s Office of Vice President for Research, Obermann Center for Advanced Studies, and the Colleges of Education and Public Health. Funded projects focus on HIV prevention and sexual health in college students, mental health promotion for middle and high school students, recruitment and retention of the behavioral health workforce, and utilizing participatory strategies and implementation science approaches with develop, implement, and evaluate interventions with key stakeholders.
