Dr. Anthony Estreet is the Chief Executive Officer of the National Association of Social Workers (NASW), the largest professional organization of social workers in the United States, representing over 108,000 members. Since February 2023, Dr. Estreet has led NASW through a period of strategic transformation, modernizing operations, expanding membership, and advancing the organization’s mission to promote social justice, racial equity, and workforce advocacy.
Under his leadership, NASW has prioritized racial equity, reproductive justice, and fair compensation for social workers, while implementing innovative approaches to membership growth, operational efficiency, and digital transformation. Dr. Estreet has championed initiatives to strengthen the social work workforce, improve professional support, and elevate the role of social work in addressing systemic social issues.
A nationally recognized thought leader, Dr. Estreet has published extensively in peer-reviewed journals, authored multiple books, and delivered keynote presentations at national and international conferences on social work leadership, equity, and mental health innovation. He is deeply committed to mentorship, leadership development, and cultivating the next generation of social work professionals, particularly from historically underrepresented communities. His work emphasizes building resilient, innovative, and inclusive leadership, advancing mental health equity, and creating systems that better serve Black communities and other marginalized populations.
He holds a Doctorate in Social Work from Morgan State University, an MSW from Virginia Commonwealth University, an MBA from the University of Maryland, College Park, and a BS in Psychology from Bowie State University. He is a proud member of Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, Inc.
