Anthony P. Carter is the author of This I Know: Principles for a Life of Faith and Optimism… a heartfelt and empowering memoir that explores race, faith, friendship, social justice, spiritual devotion, corporate America, and identity through the lens of a Black Catholic leader whose extraordinary life of service offers a fine model for living with purpose, dignity, and hope. Anthony received his BA degree in journalism and communications from Fordham University in 1976. He retired from Johnson & Johnson in 2015, as the Chief Diversity Officer reporting directly to the Chairman of the Board and was a member of the Corporate Group Operating Committee. Prior to that position, he was the Vice President of Corporate Communications with responsibility for all corporate functions at Johnson & Johnson. He had a 40-year career spanned the field of advertising copywriting for two major publishing companies; working as a communications editor and a division sales manager for Avon Products; a senior communication officer in corporate America for two Fortune 100 healthcare companies; and press secretary for New York City Mayor David N. Dinkins and United States Congressman Edolphus “Ed” Towns. He also served as the Public Affairs Director for the New York City Taxi and Limousine Commission. Anthony is recognized as a public relations legend by the New York City Chapter of the Public Relations Society of America. He received an Honorary Doctorate of Humane Letters from Fordham University in 2017 for his work in global diversity and social justice. He has received awards for his leadership in diversity, including the Corporate Diversity Award from the New Brunswick-New Jersey Branch of the N.A.A.C.P. He’s currently an Executive Committee Member of the Board of Trustees for Fordham University. He also serves on the TD Bank National Community Advisory Board; the Stevens Group Board of Advisors; and co-chair of the Black Directors Health Equity Agenda - BDHEA Fundraising Committee. Anthony is the Past President of the Board of Trustees of the Crossroads Theatre Company in New Jersey; Retired Trustee of the United Way - USA; and Board Member-Emeritus of the National Medical Fellowships.
